Celso de Azevedo, Ph. D., is recognized as the initiator of asset management in France. Founder of ASSETSMAN with clients in twenty countries since 2001, he is also the CEO. Professor in engineering schools, he is the founder of IFRAMI (French Institute of Industrial and Infrastructure Asset Management), President of the French Standardization Commission for Asset Management ISO 55000 at AFNOR and Fellow of the Institute of Asset Management (United Kingdom).

The purpose of this guide is simple: to provide our readers attentive to the emergence of asset management with the information necessary to understand the essentials of the subjects that make up this discipline, in order to be able to appreciate with accuracy and discernment actions with a concrete interest and opportunity for them. Asset management, as you will read throughout this guide, covers the entire life cycle of assets and as such it is not intended to provide solutions to a segment of the life of active in particular. The example of maintenance is eloquent: contrary to what is too widespread in the industrial world, asset management is by no means the new embodiment of maintenance.

The latter, as we know, deals with and is concerned with assets in the material sense of the term, while asset management identifies and highlights the value of the asset, what we will call extraction (or the value), which translates the expression in ISO 55000 into English, namely "value from assets". The nuance is significant.
